"A Wat Adventure"

November 23rd

I wanted to go see some more shrines and Wats because you just never know what you might find!! Kevin and the kids are always up for visiting them as well so off to see two I had read about but not ones tourists usually go to! By the end of the mornig we had visited 4:)

Wat Tha Reva

We drove in and it was so peaceful!! But under construction so the kids didn't get out of the car but i read more about it and hopefully I might make it back before we leave to investigate further:)  I guess there are Budha images in the trees around it that i missed.

Wat Sri Sunthorn

This wat was a lot of fun but it was getting so hot out we were starting to fry:)

"The temple is named after one of the two sisters, known as the Heroines of Thalang - Thao Thep Kasattri and Thao Sri Sunthorn who rallied the people of Phuket to defeat invading Burmese in 1785. Actually at the time, their names were Chan and Mook, but later King Rama V gave them these honorary names."

It was on top of one of the temples!

When we were leaving this temple Simon and Mary bowed to one of the monks he was shocked I think and gave Kevin the thumbs up:)

Wat Phra Thong

Well we finally made it to the temple we meant to visit on this day!!

This temple is known for it's famous "Half Buddha" that still sits in the exact place it was found!!

"The temple has quite a story attached to it. It's not clear exactly when, but the story is of a boy who tied his buffalo to a post sticking out of the ground. The boy became sick and died. It was found that the post he had tied the buffalo to was the top of a buried Buddha image hidden in the undergrowth. The buffalo was also dead. The villagers tried to dig up the Buddha, but could not. They got attacked by wasps, hornets and bees. the governor ordered the people to cover the image with gold and to build a temple around it."

This Buddha was gorgeous because the flacks of gold fluttered in the wind!

We bought Simon and Mary their own Buddha's from this temple!

Wat Phra Nang

Our final temple of the day was Chinese in origin! The oldest temple in Phuket, dating back more than 200 years, and was built on the site of the famous battle in 1785 between the people of Phuket and the Burmese invaders. A statue of Thao Thep Kassatri and Thao Sri Sunthon gave them these names for their valiant  lies in the temple grounds

Well that was our morning!!
